No amount of money can stop litter. Only people can.

FOUR EASY STEPS TO PREVENTING LITTER

1. Tidy your lot EVERY DAY. Take a few minutes each day to pick up litter you see on or near your property, including around hedges, trees, fences, the curbside, lawn, boulevard, sidewalk and road.  Research shows that litter is less likely to fall on pristine ground.

2. Pack your Blue Box, garbage and Green Bin correctly – less chance of spills. Tidy up after Collection Day. Don’t let spilled materials linger on your lawn, driveway or road. Especially pick up litter before cutting the grass.

** Consult your City of Toronto Curbside Collection Calendar or phone 3-1-1 for full instructions.

3. Adopt good habits. Never throw litter out of car windows or on the ground. Keep it with you until you can dispose of it in the proper receptacle. Carry a litterbag in your vehicle and use it! The fine for littering is $305.

**  SMOKERS: Please, no flicking.  Dispose of used tobacco products in proper containers.  Help get tobacco litter off our streets.

4. Don’t let people around you litter. Talk about it with them. Set a good example.  Never litter.  Report problem sites and dumping in Toronto to 3-1-1.

** PET OWNERS:  Stoop and scoop if you own pets. You are required to clean up after your animal.  Bag the waste and put it, untied, in your green bin.

Remember:  A clean neighbourhood is a safe neighbourhood, less crime.
